Pigmented lesions

What are pigmented lesions?

Brown pigmented lesions (spots) are caused by an increase in production of a skin pigment - melanin. Due to sun exposure, some hormones and also as a sign of ageing, the production of melanin increases and it gets darker. They are formed because of genetics, endocrine factors, and medications. Some women acquire unwanted pigmented lesions from the hormonal changes caused by pregnancy. Pigmented lesions may not be a medical problem but patients of all ages see them as a cosmetic concern.

How can they be removed?

One of the most modern methods for removal of pigmented lesions is skin photorejuvenation using a unique IPL technology. They can be also treated with a laser and so called chemical peel (AHA acids, TCA peel, etc). Photoprotection is the most important part of a comprehensive sun-protection plan against UV radiation induced damage to human skin.
