Sweating
Botox treatment for excessive sweating.
What is excessive sweating?
Primary hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating is a medical condition characterized by abnormally increased perspiration localized to specific parts of the body. Manifestation in the armpits, hands and feet are most common. Primary hyperhidrosis usually starts in puberty and mainly affects the armpits. It can also occur in adults and lead to significant discomfort. In such case a treatment with Botox is the right choice. Botox injections are recommended only in the event of emotional hyperhidrosis, i.e. excessive sweating during emotional situations such as stress, nervousness, fear, anxiety, joy, etc.). However, the Botox treatment does not resolve medical problems where excessive sweating is a secondary symptom (endocrine diseases e.g. thyroid)
What is Botox?
Botulinum toxin is one of the neurotoxins produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Botox is injected into the area of armpits, palms and feet and it works by blocking the release of acetylcholine in the autonomic neurons thereby temporarily paralyzing the nerves that stimulates sweat glands.
How long does Botox last?
The effect already starts to show 3 days after the treatment. There is some individual variation but the effects of Botox last approximately from 6 months to 1 year. Your doctor injects it with a fine needle directly into the area of armpits, palms or feet.
The treatment itself is ambulatory, quick and performed by a doctor.
